Zero Waste Grocer By Sidechef Is An Honorable Mention In Fast Company’s 2022 Innovation By Design Awards

Celebrating more than a decade of Innovation by Design, the 2022 honorees include nearly 600 projects, products, and services from Nike, Verizon, Microsoft, and others.

SAN JOSE, CA, September 15, 2022 --SideChef and our Zero Waste Grocer experience was honored in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2022 in the User Experience category.

The Innovation by Design Awards, which can be found in the October 2022 issue of Fast Company, honor the designers and businesses solving the most crucial problems of today and anticipating the pressing issues of tomorrow. The competition, now in its 11th year, features a range of blue-chip companies, emerging startups, and hungry young talents. It is one of the most sought-after design awards in the industry.

SideChef is an all-in-one home cooking platform that provides over 20,000 interactive recipe shopping with dynamic recipe guidance featuring hands-free voice commands, step-by-step photos, how-to videos, and built-in timers. SideChef partners with the world’s largest retailers, publishers, CPG brands, and kitchen appliance companies to offer users a seamless cooking journey. SideChef also provides personalized meal planning and over 10,000 one-click shoppable recipes to enable grocery delivery or curbside pickup, as well as smart kitchen connectivity.

In 2021, SideChef introduced a new feature to customers - ‘Zero Waste Grocer.’ This allows users to plan and shop responsibly by minimizing food waste in the household while also calculating cost per serving. According to RTS, the US discards more food than any other country in the world, approximately 80 billion pounds every year! When building any shoppable meal plan (where all groceries are automatically added into the shopping cart), SideChef’s Zero Waste algorithm will calculate and track unused ingredients, down to the exact measurement. The feature also provides suggestions on how to use up remaining ingredients, sharing additional recipe options so produce isn’t forgotten in the fridge; saving time, money, and, simultaneously, working towards a practical solution to our collective food waste problem.

“Zero Waste Grocer will be a driving force in helping consumers be more cognizant in shopping sustainably while also being cost conscious,” says SideChef CEO & Founder Kevin Yu. “Food waste is a growing global problem and we’re focused on tech-driven solutions so that users can make conscious choices in sustaining a green world through reducing food waste as well as curbing over purchasing in the household. Good for the planet and wallets!”

“A common theme among this year’s Innovation by Design honorees, which range from healthcare interfaces to autonomous driving technology, is permanence,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “The products that leaped out to our editors and judges went against our quick-fix consumer culture, while also manifesting a more inclusive vision of design.”
