GEHE ZUM BLOG

We are excited to have Megan share with us her homegrown cooking roots and what drives her passion for new opportunities.

What made you want to get into cooking?

My mom is a great cook and I have fond memories of the food she made for me as a kid, so she inspired me to explore cooking as an adult. Plus, I have a natural affinity for anything creative, so I see cooking and baking as a delicious form of expression.

Do you have any training (formal or informal)? If so, where?

I do not have any formal training whatsoever!

What was your first job in food?

Food blogging!

If you’re not already doing it, what is your top dream job in food?

Food blogging is my dream job, but I can see that evolving into something else. My underlying passion is creating delicious food, but there is so much opportunity in the foodie world. I’m excited to see where food blogging leads me!

Who is your cooking hero, and why?

My mom is my cooking hero. I learned from her how comforting it is to create delicious food for people. Good food can also make good memories.

Best lesson of your career to date?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in food blogging is to find the perfect balance between making food that I’m passionate about and that other people want. For a long time, I only made food that I loved and didn’t consider anyone else.

Advice for anyone hoping to break into the F&B world?

This is a saturated place to be, but remember that your unique voice is needed! Don’t let imposter syndrome or fear keep you from creating content because there are people who need to hear from YOU!

What are your 5 top cooking tips or tricks?

  • Use appliances like the Instant Pot to help with meal prep (meat, veggies, rice, hard-boiled eggs, etc).

  • Don’t be afraid of the IP or the air fryer. Learn how to use them and USE THEM!

  • Stop buying store-bought sauces and make homemade! Freeze for later use, if needed. There is really no reason to purchase sauce of any kind at the store. They are so easy to make at home, you know exactly what is going into them and most of them freeze well.

  • Spend the money on a nice chef’s knife!

  • Chop onions and other veggies once/week for use throughout the week.

If you could sum up your cooking style into one sentence, what would that sentence be?

I only cook recipes that are intuitive, with ingredients that are easy to find, and that are also comforting and delicious!
