If there’s one drink in the Caribbean that screams “Christmas” it would definitely have to be sorrel. Islanders all appreciate a cold glass of sorrel on those hot Caribbean days.

Sorrel Flowers

Cinnamon Stick

Dried Orange Peel

Whole Cloves

Fresh Ginger

Granulated Sugar
Cooking Instructions
1.
Remove the core out of all the Sorrel Flowers (1.5 pound) and discard.
2.
Place the sorrel flowers, Dried Orange Peel (2 piece), Cinnamon Stick (1), Whole Clove (4) and Fresh Ginger (1 slice) in a large pot.
3.
Cover with Water (8 cup) and bring to a boil.
4.
Reduce to a gentle simmer and let it go for about 30 minutes.
5.
Then remove off the heat, cover and let it steep for a few hours. Steep overnight for maximum flavor.
6.
Strain and discard ingredients.
7.
Chill and sweeten to your liking with Granulated Sugar (to taste).
8.
Remember to add some crushed ice and sliced limes or lemons when serving!
