Italian Sausage Sub

Mild Italian Sausages , cut

Water

Green Bell Pepper , chopped

Onion , chopped

Garlic , minced

Pasta Sauce

Mozzarella Cheese , thinly sliced

Hoagie Rolls

or Sandwich Buns, or Any Similar Bread

Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Place Mild Italian Sausages (2 lb) pieces in deep skillet. Cook over medium heat, turning often, until done and outside is crusty. Remove sausage from skillet. Place in a bowl and set aside.

Pour off grease from skillet and discard. Put Water (4 Tbsp) in skillet and heat, stirring constantly, to deglaze the skillet. Add Green Bell Pepper (1) , Onion (1) and Garlic (1 clove) . Sauté until vegetables are soft. Stir in Pasta Sauce (2 1/3 cups) , Dried Oregano (1 tsp) and Dried Basil (1 tsp) .

Split open the Hoagie Rolls (6) and place them in baking dishes. Top each half-roll with cooked sausage. Cover each with Italian sauce, followed by slices of Mozzarella Cheese (4 cups) . Cover with a little more Italian sauce.

Bake in the preheated oven for for 5 to 10 minutes, until cheese is melted and beginning to brown. Serve immediately.
