Step 1
Preheat the oven to 320 degrees F (160 degrees C).
Step 2
In the bowl of a stand-mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, combine the Eggs (4) and Caster Sugar (360 g) and mix on a high speed for 3-5 minutes until light and fluffy.
Step 3
Combine the All-Purpose Flour (250 g) , Dark Cocoa Powder (15 g) , Baking Powder (15 g) and Salt (1 pinch) in a bowl and whisk together to get rid of any lumps.
Step 4
Add the dry ingredients to the egg and sugar mixture and mix on a low speed until just combined.
Step 5
Combine the Butter (120 g) and Milk (240 mL) in a saucepan and melt the butter over a low heat. Bring to the boil and remove from the heat.
Step 6
Add the boiled milk and butter mixture to the bowl of the stand mixer, and whisk on high until completely combined.
Step 7
Pour the cake batter into an oven-proof dish and place in the oven. Bake for around 45-60 minutes.
Step 8
Remove the cake from the oven and allow to cool completely. While the cake is cooling, make the frosting.
Step 9
Place the Butter (240 g) in the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attached.
Step 10
Mix on a high speed until the butter becomes light and pale, around 5 minutes.
Step 11
Add the Powdered Confectioners Sugar (220 g) and Dark Cocoa Powder (40 g) , mix on a high speed until thick and combined.
Step 12
Add the Milk (60 mL) and continue mixing until light and fluffy.
Step 13
Frost the cake using an off-set spatula knife.
Step 14
Decorate with Sprinkles (to taste) . Serve and enjoy the Best Basic Chocolate Cake!
