Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake round with parchment paper. Set aside.
Step 2
In a standing mixer or using a hand mixer, mix the Butter (60 g) , Brown Sugar (220 g) , and Vanilla Extract (5 mL) until light and fluffy. Add in the Egg (1) and mix just until combined.
Step 3
In a medium bowl, whisk the All-Purpose Flour (185 g) , Baking Soda (5 g) , Salt (3 g) , Ground Cinnamon (1 g) , Ground Nutmeg (1 g) , and Ground Cloves (as needed) .
Step 4
Add to the butter mixture and mix until just incorporated. Stream in the Buttermilk (240 mL) while mixing on low.
Step 5
Once combined, pour into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30 minutes or until the center comes out clean when inserted with a toothpick.
Step 6
In a medium bowl, beat the Butter (120 g) , Molasses (7 g) , and Powdered Confectioners Sugar (110 g) together until smooth, add in the Cream (15 mL) and beat until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Step 7
Once the cake has completely cooled, dollop the frosting onto the top of the cake and spread evenly on the top.
