Cooking InstructionsHide images
step 1
In a large pot, heat Water (8 cups). When it comes to a boil, add Yellow Split Peas (1 cup), Lentils (1 cup), Garlic (2 cloves), Salt (3/4 tsp), Ground Turmeric (3/4 tsp), Onion (1/4), Ground Black Pepper (1/4 tsp), and Habanero Pepper (1/2). Bring back up to a boil, then lower to the most gentle simmer you can get.
step 2
Place the lid on the pot slightly ajar and allow this to cook for about 80 minutes or until the split peas are tender and starts to dissolve. If you have a pressure cooker, this will only take about 15 minutes or so.
step 3
Use a wire whisk or swizzle stick and give it a good whisk.
step 4
Turn off the heat from the dhal and in a small frying pan heat the Vegetable Oil (3 Tbsp), then add the remaining Garlic (2 cloves). Allow this to cook for a couple minutes, until you start seeing the edges of the garlic start to go a dark brown.
step 5
Carefully pour garlic into pot of lentils and stir well. Check if there is enough salt to your liking. Serve hot and enjoy!
