Cooking Instructions
1.
In a large bowl add Ground Pork (1 lb), Honey (1 Tbsp), Light Soy Sauce (4 tsp), Shaoxing Cooking Wine (2 tsp), Brown Sugar (2 Tbsp), Corn Starch (4 tsp), Chinese Five Spice Powder (1 tsp), Salt (as needed), Garlic (3 cloves), and Fresh Cilantro Leaves (5). Mix well and allow to marinate for 15 minutes.
2.
Divide the ground pork mixture into preferred equal parts and shape them into patties.
3.
Heat Cooking Oil (2 Tbsp) over medium heat in a cast-iron skillet. Sear the burger patties for 2–3 minutes.
4.
Flip them over and sear for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the burger patties from the skillet and set them aside.
5.
In a small saucepan, prepare the sauce by combining Honey (2 Tbsp), Light Soy Sauce (2 Tbsp), Dark Soy Sauce (1 tsp), Brown Sugar (2 Tbsp), and Chinese Five Spice Powder (as needed). Place the saucepan over medium heat.
6.
Mix Corn Starch (1 tsp) with Water (2 Tbsp) in a small bowl. Stir well till this mixture is smooth. When the sauce starts to boil, pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan. Keep string until the sauce thickens, then set aside.
7.
Assemble the burger in this sequence: place the burger patty on the bottom of each Hamburger Buns (4), smear the sauce over the patty, top with Carrots (1/2 cup), Fresh Cilantro Leaves (1/2 cup), and Lettuce Leaves (as needed), last top with the burger bun.
8.
Serve your Char Siu burgers with your favorite side dishes.
Author's Notes
Make the patties ahead of time. Cooked pork patties can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Reheat in a microwave on high for 1 minute.
The cooking time for your burger patties depends on the thickness of the patties. To ensure your burgers are cooked all the way through, use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should be at 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
