Clean a large glass jug with at least 5 cup capacity, a non-metal slotted spoon, a jar for storing finished kefir, a wide non-metal bowl, and a fine mesh non-metal colander well with regular soap. Avoid antimicrobial soaps.
Add Live Kefir Grains (1 Tbsp) and Whole Milk (4 cup) to a large glass jug. Cover the jug with either a few layers of paper towels or a few paper coffee filters. Secure with a rubber band to prevent any bugs or dust from getting in.
