Selection & Storage

It’s always wiser to choose tender baby spinach leaves. The larger the leaves, the more mature they are and the more likely they are to be tough or stringy.

Spinach leaves that are placed under well-lit areas in the store have been found to contain more nutrients than those stored in dark areas.

Do not wash spinach before storing, as the moisture will cause it to spoil. Do, however, ensure it’s washed properly before consumption, as the leaves and stems may have residual soil and chemicals.

Clever Uses

Add spinach into recipes you already make at home. Throw a few handfuls into your favorite pasta, soup or casserole for a healthy green addition.

Sautée spinach with a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and season with ground black pepper and freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Serve under grilled meat or fish.

Food Science

Spinach’s dark green color indicates that it contains high levels of chlorophyll and healthy carotenoids!

It’s possible to develop kidney stones after eating too much spinach because of its high levels of oxalic acid.

Cooking Tips
