Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and lightly butter a 9x9-inch baking pan. Line bottom and two sides with parchment, allowing a slight overhang.
Step 2
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine
Dates (1 1/2 cups)

Granulated Sugar (1/3 cup)

Oranges (1 1/2)
, and
Water (1/3 cup)
. Allow to come to a simmer and cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes, until soft and jammy. Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine
Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (1 1/2 cups)
,
All-Purpose Flour (1 1/4 cups)
,
Brown Sugar (1 cup)
,
Ground Cardamom (1 1/4 tsp)
,
Baking Soda (1 tsp)
, and
Salt (1/2 tsp)
.
Step 4
Cut in
Unsalted Butter (1 cup)
using your fingers or pastry cutter, until well combined and the mixture holds together when lightly squeezed.
Step 5
Evenly press a generous half of the oat mixture, about 3 cups, into the bottom of prepared pan. Spread dates evenly over oats. Add remaining oat mixture, pressing slightly.
Step 6
Bake in preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, until golden.
Step 7
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Remove from pan by lifting the overhanging parchment, then cut into desired squares. Serve and enjoy!
