Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and lightly butter a 9x9-inch baking pan. Line bottom and two sides with parchment, allowing a slight overhang.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine Dates (1 1/2 cups), Granulated Sugar (1/3 cup), Oranges (1 1/2), and Water (1/3 cup). Allow to come to a simmer and cook uncovered for 8-10 minutes, until soft and jammy. Remove from heat and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (1 1/2 cups), All-Purpose Flour (1 1/4 cups), Brown Sugar (1 cup), Ground Cardamom (1 tsp), Baking Soda (1 tsp), and Salt (1/2 tsp).

Cut in Unsalted Butter (1 cup) using your fingers or pastry cutter, until well combined and the mixture holds together when lightly squeezed.
5.
Evenly press a generous half of the oat mixture, about 3 cups, into the bottom of prepared pan. Spread dates evenly over oats. Add remaining oat mixture, pressing slightly.
6.
Bake in preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes, until golden.
7.
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Remove from pan by lifting the overhanging parchment, then cut into desired squares. Serve and enjoy!
