Step 1
Crush
Whole Cardamom Pods (10)
using the bottom of a small pot or metal measuring cup. Remove seeds and discard shells.
Step 2
Continue to crush cardamom seeds along with
Black Peppercorns (15)
,
Whole Cloves (4)
,
Star Anise (1)
,
Cinnamon Stick (1)
, and
Whole Nutmeg (1)
until well broken down.
Step 3
Bring
Water (2 cups)
to a simmer in a small pot. Add crushed spices along with
Ground Ginger (1/2 tsp)
. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Remove from heat and stir in
Black Tea (2 Tbsp)
. Cover and steep for 10 more minutes.
Step 5
Stir in
Brown Sugar (3 Tbsp)
and strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
Step 6
Warm and froth
Unsweetened Almond Milk (2 cups)
. Pour 1/2 cup hot chai concentrate into a mug and top with 1/2 cup of almond milk and a spoonful or two of froth. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon if desired and serve immediately. Enjoy!
