Author's Notes

Make sure to use DARK brown sugar, as opposed to light brown sugar. Dark brown sugar provides a lovely color to these finished cookies and a lovely caramel-y flavor you just don’t get when using light brown.

Makes 16-20 cookies.

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Step 2
Combine Dark Brown Sugar (1/2 cup) , Granulated Sugar (1/4 cup) , and Unsalted Butter (1/2 cup) in the bowl of a standing mixer or other medium mixing bowl.
Step 3
Cream together very well until mixture has lightened in color and is somewhat fluffy. Then add the Large Egg (1) and combine thoroughly.
Step 4
Mix in Salt (1/2 tsp) , Baking Soda (3/4 tsp) , and Vanilla Extract (1/2 tsp) . Add the sifted All-Purpose Flour (1 1/4 cups) and mix just until combined. Mix in Milk Chocolate Chips (1 cup) .
Step 5
Drop heaping tablespoons of cookie dough onto a cookie sheet, about two inches apart. Bake on a center rack for 10-11 minutes until cookies begin to brown around the edges.
Step 6
Remove cookie sheet from the oven and let the cookies sit for 1-2 minutes, then lift the cookies onto a serving tray with a spatula.
Step 7
Enjoy warm with a glass of milk!
