Cooking Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C).
Step 2
Into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, add the Granulated Sugar (1 1/2 cups) and Crisco (1/2 cup) . Cream together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
Step 3
Add Eggs (2) and beat together until well combined, about 1-2 minutes.
Step 4
In a small bowl, mix Premium Cocoa Powder (2 Tbsp) , Blue Food Coloring (1 fl oz) , and Purple Food Coloring (2 dashes) .
Step 5
Add cocoa powder and food coloring mixture. Mix until well combined.
Step 6
Combine All-Purpose Flour (2 1/4 cups) and Salt (1 tsp) . Add half of this dry mixture into the batter and mix until just combined.
Step 7
Add half the Buttermilk (1/2 cup) , the Vanilla Extract (1/2 Tbsp) , Vanilla Bean Paste (1 tsp) . Mix until combined.
Step 8
Add remaining dry ingredients and mix, then add the rest of the Buttermilk (1/2 cup) and mix once more.
Step 9
Add Distilled White Vinegar (1 Tbsp) and Baking Soda (1 tsp) . Give batter one last mix to make sure everything is well-incorporated.
Step 10
Divide batter between two 9-inch cake pans.
Step 11
Bake for 20-25 minutes.
Step 12
Once cakes are cooled, frost with Cream Cheese Frosting (to taste) as desired.
