Cook the Chana Dal (1 cup) but make sure it does not become over cooked and become a paste. Boil Winter Melon Gourd (1 cup), Banana (1 cup), and Yam (1 cup), adding Ground Turmeric (1/4 teaspoon), Red Chili Powder (1 teaspoon), Ground Black Pepper (1 teaspoon), and Salt (to taste). Once this cooks well add the cooked channa dal.
Grind together Desiccated Coconut (1 cup) and Green Chili Pepper (2). Do not make it a fine paste only crush. Add the coconut mix to the chana dal vegetable mix. Blend well and allow to boil. Once boiled add crushed Jaggery (1 piece) and Curry Leaf (to taste) and mix well.
Pour Coconut Oil (2 tablespoon) to a pan, add Mustard Seeds (1/4 teaspoon) and once this pops, add Dried Chili Pepper (2) and Desiccated Coconut (1/2 cup). Roast till the coconut becomes light brown in color and then add Ground Black Pepper (1 teaspoon) and mix it well. Add this to the koottucurry.
