As a kid it was about the candy, as a teenager it was about the costumes, as a college student it was about the party, as a parent it’s about the pictures, but this year is not like any other - what is Halloween about in this 2020 universe? In a world where we're already donning masks daily and people care less than ever about what they wear, what will this holiday bring? Like much of 2020, there are a lot of unknowns.

We know it's a particularly tough holiday for parents with young kids, so we've put together a bit of a playlist of activities and alternative treats and activities to make sure that even in this year, there’s still something for everyone.

Candy

Fight the boredom and get your sweet treat fix with my newest Hallo-propriate recipe. Inspired by some of my favorites I’ve developed the Pumpkin Spice Krispie treat. It combines fall flavors with the ever satisfying and simple snack decorated with tootsie rolls and airheads. Anyone can make them and everyone will want to! Finally an excuse to play with your food.

Costumes

The stress of creating the perfect Halloween illusion is not as strong this year and opens us up to what we can create. No need for the store-bought witch costume, use this as an opportunity to use what you have- break out your grandma's sewing machine and challenge yourself to REALLY D.I.Y. Or make use of what you have to push out some genius costumes.

Reverse Trick or Treating → Fun Deliveries

It’s time for reverse trick or treating! Have your kids set up their collection station at the end of your driveway and work with your friends and neighbors to safely prepare and drop off treats. My pumpkin Spice Rice Krispie Treat is PERFECT for this- made for sharing the spirit of Halloween, easy to transport, and sure to bring joy.

Spooky Tip: Host a Scary Story Zoom Hour

If you aren’t tired of your zoom screen, then this is always an option - but make sure to assign roles! Who’s the MC? Who’s the DJ? What spooky/monster/candy/fall-themed games can you think of? Maybe a spooky game of would you rather (would you rather be a witch with no magic or a werewolf with no teeth?) Just because you can’t physically be with friends doesn’t mean it has to be any less fun. Include a show and tell design your own monster drawing session! This is your chance to let your spooky side shine.

Although this year is a little different there’s no reason the spooky season should be canceled. With a few creative solutions and, of course, lots of treats this Halloween can still be a festive celebration of magic and mischief.
