This summer’s most epic battle was fought and won at the SideChef kitchen arena. Three mac and cheese recipes, chosen from a pool of partner submissions, were prepped, cooked, and judged in our SideChef’s first ever recipe throwdown.
After careful deliberation by SideChef’s in-house personalities (IHPs), these recipes were chosen to take part in the competition: Chelsea Peach Tree’s Buffalo Cauliflower Vegan Mac and Cheese, Throwdown Kitchen’s Noodles Mac and Cheese (But Better), and Marley’s Menu’s Indulgent Mac N Cheese.
Participating recipes were prepared and cooked according to the recipe instructions and judged based on these factors: Taste (40%), Texture (30%), Replicability (20%), and Uniqueness (10%).
Here are the winners and the SideChef cooks who represented them.
Taking less than 30 minutes from actual prep to service, Chelsea’s buffalo cauliflower vegan mac and cheese recipe was easy to replicate and packed a sharp and powerful punch on the palate.

With three kinds of cheese AND evaporated milk, John of Throwdown Kitchen’s take on mac and cheese is one sent from the dairy gods. A copycat version of Noodles & Company’s macaroni and cheese, this recipe is rich, creamy, and tastes like your childhood.

The winner of our first taste-off is designed to make the kid in you rejoice. Marley’s mac and cheese recipe is extra creamy, but firm, and packs just the right amount of indulgence to make this meal into your new weeknight classic.
