In-Cider Scoop

Apple cider has become synonymous with the fall season. This warming drink is a tasty way to welcome dropping temperatures while repurposing the season’s abundant apple harvest.

Make Your Own

Put down that packaged hot apple cider mix and try your hand at making your own. It's easy, fun, and your home will smell like fall all season long. The simplicity of the recipe will have you making it again and again.

Step 1

Wash and peel the apples (if they are not organic) and then slice into eighths. Add all of the ingredients to a slow cooker, set it for eight hours, and forget it!

Alternatively, add all ingredients into a large stockpot and boil on high, uncovered, for one hour. Check frequently to ensure it does not burn. After one hour, cover and let simmer for another two hours. Take off the heat, and allow it to cool.

Step 2

Remove the spices and mash up the apples to a pulp-like consistency. Strain the contents through a cheesecloth or mesh sieve.

Step 3

Serve the cider warm. Leftover cider keeps well in the refrigerator for five to seven days. Or, you can keep it in the freezer for up to three months!

Repurposing Leftovers

With all this delicious cider you have made, you are probably wondering what else you can do with it. For a delicious boozy alternative, try Domesticate Me’s Bourbon Spiced Cider Punch.

Bourbon Spiced Cider Punch

Domesticate Me

The sugary concentrated apple mixed with all those comforting spices manages to be both cozy and refreshing at the same time, with a hefty pour of bourbon to warm things up, ginger beer for a little kick, and lemon to cut the sweetness.

Cider Marinade

Pork pairs well with apples, so try marinating your pork in apple cider before cooking. This will enhance the flavor and add moisture to the meat.
