How to Make KFC Fried Chicken at Home

  1. The secret to the famous Kentucky fried chicken is the buttermilk marinade and the 11 spice blend that was published in Chicago Tribune. You can find the list of the 11 herbs and spices you’ll need for the blend below.
  2. Make sure the chicken is fully defrosted and at room temperature before putting it into the buttermilk marinade.
  3. Leave the chicken in the fridge to marinate overnight and soak up all the delicious flavors. You can marinate it for up to 24 hours.
  4. Before coating the chicken pieces in flour mixture use paper towels to pat it dry enough not to drip.

In a large bowl, mix Paprika (1/2 Tbsp) , Dried Thyme (1/2 tsp) , Dried Ginger (1/2 tsp) , Garlic Salt (1 tsp) , Dried Basil (1/2 tsp) , Dried Oregano (1/4 tsp) , Celery Salt (1/2 tsp) , Dry Mustard (1/2 tsp) , Ground Black Pepper (1/2 tsp) , Ground White Pepper (1/2 tsp) , Salt (1/2 tsp) , and Buttermilk (2 1/2 cups) together.
Step 2
Place the Tyson® Chicken Legs (8) into the buttermilk and spice mixture. Coat well. Leave to marinate in the fridge for 24 hours.
Step 3
In another bowl, add All-Purpose Flour (4 cups) , Paprika (1/2 Tbsp) , Dried Thyme (1/2 tsp) , Dried Ginger (1/2 tsp) , Garlic Salt (1 tsp) , Dried Basil (1/2 tsp) , Dried Oregano (1/4 tsp) , Celery Salt (1/2 tsp) , Dry Mustard (1/2 tsp) , Ground Black Pepper (1/2 tsp) , Ground White Pepper (1/2 tsp) , and Salt (1/2 tsp) .
Step 4
Thoroughly coat the chicken in the flour and spice mixture.
Step 5
Heat Frying Oil (as needed) in a pot. Fry chicken for 8 minutes, placing finished pieces on a paper towel.
Step 6
Serve and enjoy!
