1 rating
Beef Taco Crostada is tasty and fun with flaky pastry, taco-seasoned beef, and endless topping options. It’s like a taco pie without the pie plate. The ground beef is cooked with onions and green pepper and then seasoned with a taco seasoning blend for flavor and spiciness. Go crazy with the toppings and enjoy, it’s a fun family meal.

Author's Notes

The pastry can be made up to a day in advance and kept chilled until ready to use.
Cooking InstructionsHide images
step 1
Combine All-Purpose Flour (3/4 cup), Corn Flour (1/2 cup), and Salt (1/2 tsp) in a large bowl.
step 2
Cut in Unsalted Butter (1/2 cup) chunks until pea-size or smaller.
step 3
Drizzle with Water (1/4 cup) and the Distilled White Vinegar (1 Tbsp) tossing with a fork until the dough becomes scraggly. Add another tbsp of cold water if necessary.
step 4
Turn the mixture out onto a clean work surface and knead until the dough comes together.
step 5
Form it into a flat disk and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least an hour.
step 6
Heat Olive Oil (1 Tbsp) in a large skillet. Add White Onion (1/2 cup) and Green Bell Pepper (1/3 cup) and sauté over medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
step 7
Add Lean Ground Beef (1 lb) and continue to cook until the beef is no longer pink and has started to brown, breaking up beef chunks as it cooks. Remove from heat and dab out any excess fat with a paper towel.
step 8
Return to medium heat and add McCormick® Garlic Powder (3/4 tsp), Onion Powder (3/4 tsp), Paprika (1 tsp), Chili Powder (1/2 Tbsp), Ground Cumin (1/2 tsp), Dried Oregano (1/2 tsp), Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (1/4 tsp), Kosher Salt (1/2 tsp), and Water (1 cup), stirring to combine. Allow mixture to come to a simmer and cook uncovered until most of the moisture has evaporated, for about 10 minutes.
step 9
Remove from the heat and stir in Canned Black Beans (1/2 cup) and half of the Cheddar Cheese (1/2 cup).
step 10
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and line a large baking tray with parchment.
step 11
Roll dough into a 14-inch circle that will be about 1/8-inch thick. Fold the dough in half and move it to your prepared baking tray.
step 12
Spread beef mixture in the center of the dough leaving a 1 1/2 to 2-inch border of dough.
step 13
Fold the dough border up and over the beef mixture, crimping the dough slightly as you go.
step 14
Whisk a Farmhouse Eggs® Large Brown Egg (1) with 1 Tbsp of Water (1 Tbsp) and brush onto the exposed pastry edge.
step 15
Bake for about 35 minutes until the pastry is golden.
step 16
Remove from oven and top centre with remaining Cheddar Cheese (1/2 cup). Cut into wedges and serve with topping such as Salsa (to taste), Sour Cream (to taste), Diced Tomatoes (to taste), and Lettuce (to taste).
