Meet Vincenzo!

Meet Vincenzo Prosperi, the creator of Vincenzo’s Plate. Vincenzo's Plate is a YouTube channel and Food Blog with a focus on cooking, determined to teach the world one video recipe at a time. In it, he proves you don’t need to be a professional chef to impress friends, family, and yourself.

Vincenzo used to be a comedian and actor and worked in many theaters and film productions. He is a 30-something-year-old, Italian-born food lover. Growing up with his grandmother, he has been involved in the kitchen from a very young age.

“When I was a kid I spent lots of time with my grandparents and my grandma used to teach me how to cook. I remember one Sunday morning, Nonna had her church friends over to her house and they were chatting around the table where Nonna was making fresh gnocchi. I was very little and Nonna had me make a few gnocchi in front of her friends. Her friends were very happy for me.”

How did your food blog start? What's the story?

I created my YouTube channel and food blog with the aim to equip those interested with the basics in Italian cooking (to start off with), teaching traditional techniques I learned from my Nonna, with a few twists and turns intertwined through every recipe.

The concept for Vincenzo’s Plate was devised when friends and family alike kept pestering me for recipes for my dishes and although I would explain how they were very easy to recreate, few believed me and continued to dine out at Italian restaurants, some of which are an adaptation of the real thing, or as I would describe it, “fake Italian food.”

In 2016, I produced a TV show called "Italy Unexplored" with Vincenzo’s Plate and it’s about my unexplored region of Abruzzo, a region unknown to many but with real Italian flavors and some of the best foods in Italy.

What was your favorite childhood meal?

My favorite meal when I was a child is still my favorite today and it’s Timballo Teramano made by my grandmother. It’s a traditional lasagna made with crepes, meat, and cheese. This recipe is now featuring on my website www.vincenzosplate.com and I am inviting you to try it because it’s a unique culinary experience.

What are your kitchen essentials?

My saucepans, pots, and favorite knives.

What is the best or weirdest thing you've ever eaten in your travels?

The weirdest thing I have eaten is a Japanese Omelette in a Kawaii Café in Tokyo. Please see the photo to understand why.

Japanese Omelette in Tokyo

The best thing I have eaten is a Sashimi Platter from a great restaurant in Tokyo. Can you tell I love Japanese food?

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

To have built an amazing community of foodies across my social media platforms, website, and YouTube channel. Sharing my passion for food with others makes me the happiest person in the world.

Describe your dream kitchen.

My dream kitchen is an Italian-countryside-style kitchen (think of Tuscany), overlooking a winery and olive tree garden.

My perfect day would be...

Having a family feast.

I believe any problem can be solved with...

A smile.

When I need liquid courage, I drink...

Water.

My guilty pleasure is...

Cuban and Venezuelan Rum.

I wish I had the superpower...

To go back in time, because I would play the right number to win the lottery.

What are your favorite recipes on the app, and why?

Lasagna Bianca because it’s a dish I created. It is special because I created it on New Year’s Day in 2009 for my friends. We were in a remote countryside location in Italy and my friends wanted me to cook something delicious. There were a lot of expectations, but we didn’t have many ingredients at home. I opened the fridge and there wasn’t much in there, but I was inspired by my grandmother who is the best at creating amazing dishes with whatever she has at home. So I closed my eyes and used my imagination to create this lasagna dish.

This creamy lasagna recipe takes the traditional lasagna recipe and turns it white! It is packed with cheese, vegetables, beef mince, and bechamel sauce.

What is your advice to people who aspire to be in your field or do similar projects?

First of all, find out what you are really passionate about. When you find that, create your dream job around it. I have always been passionate about good Italian food and seeing people cooking Italian the wrong way made me create my blog and YouTube channel with the mission to teach foodies from around the world how to cook and eat Italian food the proper way.
