Juneteenth is a celebration of resilience. It commemorates the day that word of Emancipation finally reached the last of those still enslaved in Galveston, Texas. The announcement took place on June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Within the black community, it has become a 155+ year tradition to host celebrations to recognize collective resilience, perseverance, honor ancestors, and express unmitigated joy on Juneteenth in remembrance of that day.
Juneteenth marks an important milestone in American history, and we all must take a moment to recognize its significance. Since Juneteenth is around the corner, I have curated a list of recipes from some of the most amazing black Culinary Partners here at SideChef.
I also organize the Juneteenth Virtual Cookout, a collection of personal recipes and food traditions contributed by over 40 amazing black content creators. Join me in celebrating Juneteenth by digging into the recipes on both lists and following the #JuneteenthCookout2022 hashtag on Instagram.
