Margarita Cocktail Origin Version 2:

According to another version, America’s favorite alcoholic drink was invented by a Dallas socialite Margarita Sames. She insisted that she created the cocktail for a group of friends on their holiday in Acapulco in 1948. Margarita then shared the recipe with her dear friend Tommy Hilton who put the cocktail on the bar menu of every hotel at the Hilton chain.

Even though this version is exciting and does sound believable, it’s not true. Three years before Margarita the socialite mixed up her Margarita the cocktail, Jose Cuervo had already been running ads promoting the drink: “Margarita: It’s more than a girl’s name.”

Margarita Cocktail Origin Version 3:

According to Mexico’s official news agency Notimex, Francisco "Pancho" Morales has the strongest claim for creating the first Margarita drink. He allegedly mixed the first Margarita in Juárez, Chihuahua, at Tommy's Place Bar on July 4, 1942.

In an interview with Texas Monthly, Morales said that he remembers the exact moment he created the famous cocktail: “Exactly, it was one Fourth of July…A lady came in and said, ‘Let me have a Magnolia.

“Well, the bartender, same as cooks and artists… The bartender has a lot of pride. We have too much pride to say, ‘Well, I’m sorry … I don’t know how to make that drink.’

He knew, though, that a Magnolia contained Cointreau, lime, and some type of liquor. So he decided to make it with tequila and pretend that he has misheard the customer.

“I gave it to her, and she says, ‘Oh, this is not a Magnolia, but it is very good.’ And, I said, ‘Oh, oh, I thought you said, Margarita.’

‘You see, daisy, in Spanish, is margarita. The reason I called it the Margarita is because I was thinking of the flower margarita, like the magnolia. She liked it. That’s how it originated.”
